学术经历
1950年（昭和25年3月），东京大学文学部东洋史学科毕业。
1952年（昭和27年4月），东京大学东洋文化研究所助教。
1953年至1956年（昭和28年6月－31年6月），赴印度、英国等留学。
1957年（昭和32年3月），东京大学东洋文化研究所讲师。
1962年（昭和37年5月），东京大学东洋文化研究所助教授。
1970年（昭和45年4月），东京大学东洋文化研究所教授。
1980年（昭和55年4月），东京大学东洋文化研究所所长。
1987年（昭和62年3月），东京大学教授退休，任名誉教授。
期间，中根千枝还担任美国芝加哥大学教授、美国高等行动科学研究所研究员等。
所获荣誉：
1976年（昭和51年），英国王立人类学协会名誉会员；
1977年（昭和52年），美国哲学协会外国人会员；
1989年（昭和68年），国际人类学民族学联合会名誉会员；
1993年（平成5年11月），文化功劳者表彰；
1995年（平成7年12月），日本学士院会员；
1998年（平成10年4月），勲二等宝冠章受章；
2001年（平成13年11月），文化勲章受章；
